Blog vs. Wiki

The main difference between a blog and a wiki is the contributor. For instance, a blog is personal, with little collaboration and the posting is owned by the poster. Whereas a wiki can be personal, but is open to collaboration (access via password). Any information can be changed or deleted by anyone.

Are you being compromised? Challenges of cyber communication in the 21st century.

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is an integral part of our daily lives. The growth in electronic communication and social media is nothing short of astounding. If Facebook were a country, it would now be the world's third largest. Google is such a common term in language use that in 2006 it was added to the Oxford Dictionary.

We use ICT to stay in contact, to obtain information, to conduct business and for financial and banking services. Companies are increasingly aware of the need to be connected online with customers. Government and business are also taking advantage of the opportunities for economic development that exist through increased use of information technology.

However, the rapid growth and development of ICT is matched by the rise of issues around cyber security. The complex issues around e-crime, internet fraud and scams and cyber-bullying present key challenges for all ICT users.

This public lecture presented by two experts in the area of cyber security, Detective Senior Sergeant Barry Blundell and Professor Jill Slay will challenge our thinking about how ICT impacts law enforcement, and how research is playing a pivotal role in enhancing security in today's cyber communication.

How To Create an Animation by Photoshop

Step 1: Start a new composition

Open images in Photoshop. Start a new composition by going to File, New, and then setting the image size. 

Step 2: Unlock the background layer

Double click on the Background layer in the Layers window to unlock it.

Step 3: Add images to the composition

Copy & Paste each image in the new composition.

Step 4: Launch Animation window

Launch the Animation window by selecting Window on the top menu, and then clicking Animate. The Animation window will appear at the bottom.

Step 5: Hide layers

Specify which layers you want to see on the first frame of the animation by hiding the others. Hide a layer by clicking on the eyeball icon next to it in the Layer menu.

Step 6: Add new frames

Click the Add New Frame or Duplicate Selected Frames button in the Animation window. As you add new frames, specify which layers to hide and show as the animation progresses.

Step 7: Adjust the animation

Set the animation to loop by selecting Forever at the bottom left corner of the Animation window. Click Play to test the animation and adjust the timing by clicking the seconds under the frame.

Step 8: Save

Save the animated gif by going to File, Save for Web and Devices, and selecting GIF. 

Prezi _ NEW authoring tool

I just came to know about this tool in the first month in Adelaide when I went to Flinders University to join a seminar on Medicine organised by my cousin. I was amazed by a presentation which looks like a PowerPoint one but I knew it completely was not. I wondered if it was MS PowerPoint 2010. I have pushed myself to find out what it is. By chance, today, when I was looking for a website on ICT in ELT, reading an article from http://blogs.ihes.com/tech-elt/ and then I found out it is PREZI. http://prezi.com/learn/

How to remove vocal from a song with Adobe Audition 3.0?

It is not easy to remove vocals from a song completely. However, you can try to reduce the vocals using Adobe Audition 3.0 as follows:

•  Step 1: Open the song
•  Step 2: Choose tab Effects
•  Step 3: Select Stereo Imagery > Center Channel Extractor
•  Step 4: Decrease the Center Channel Level & Crossover
•  Step 5: OK & save the file 

Please notice that:

• You may PLAY the trial version of the instrumental music while adjusting
• You should not tick Volume Boost Mode (it makes the sound terrible then)
